COURSE DESCRIPTION: The techniques for synthesizing music in software synthesis, soundcards, hardware synthesizers, and mobile phones. Topics include: music representation, music theory, musical acoustics, spectral analysis, sound synthesis, sound modification techniques and effects, MIDI, music information retrieval, musical instrument recognition, music on mobile phones.
