Bibliographic Research Links
This page is meant as an introduction to some general
bibliographic research links for postgraduate students in the
department of computer science, Hong Kong UST.
General Bibliographies
Online Publications
- SIAM Journals Online:
E-versions of the newer volumes of the journals of the Society
for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Older
volumes of many of the journals are also accessible via JSTOR.
- Springer Link:
The Springer-Verlag information service with links to many
of their publications. Note that this link is for the
general public and might not give full-text access to some
journals. For those with a HKUST login full-text access is
available at Springer
E-Journals.
- e-Print archive: Electronic
preprint server. First designed for physics but has a good
selection of math and computer science papers as well.
Links only accessible with HKUST logins
- HKUST Library Databases: List of
all of the UST databases, many available online.
- HKUST
Electronic Journals: List and searching capability.
- INSPEC:
Citations and abstracts of more than 4200 journals and 1000
conference proceedings
- MathSciNet: Citations and reviews
to international literature in mathematics and related areas.
- Web of Science:
Provides web access to Science Citation Index Expanded and
Social Sciences Citation Index
- ACM Portal to Computing Literature:
Includes the ACM Digital Library
- IEEE XPLORE: the online version of
the IEEE Electronic Library
- JSTOR: Offers the full-text of 124
core journals in 16 disciplines going back to their first
issues. As an archival database, issues of recent 3-5 years are
not available
- ScienceDirect (Web editions): Provides the full image of over 330 Elsevier
journals subscribed to by the Library. Only the last 12 months
issues are available. The database offers no searching
capability but is indexed in Scirus.
- Springer E-Journals: Provides the full images of over 400 journals
published by Springer
- ProQuest
Digital Dissertations: Contains the full contents of the
Dissertation Abstracts database. Also also provides 24 page
previews of theses published since 1997.
- NetLibrary:
Provides full-text access to 42,000 ebooks in a wide range
of disciplines: humanities, social sciences, business, science
and engineering
Interlibrary loan: Online
research tools are wonderful tools but, with the exception
of the journals archived in JSTOR it can be difficult to get
online copies of papers that appeared prior to the early
1990s. When you need such papers, and they are not available
in hardcopy form in the library collection, your best option
is to request photocopies of the articles via interlibrary loan.
Postgraduate students are eligible to make 40 free
ILL requests per semester (anything over 40 needs to be paid for).
See this
library page for more details. The
login page for online requests is
here
